YOUTH THEATRE

It is an opportunity for your children to become actively engaged with our company and provides a chance for them to grow up with us.

Youth Theatre encourages self-confidence and focus. It is an enjoyable way for members to explore their imaginations and to harness and express their creativity.

Members learn various drama techniques including voice, characterisation, movement and scene work.

Congratulations to TBPYT student  Xavi St Cartmail!

Tim Bray Productions’ Youth Theatre is excited to announce that Xavier St Cartmail, a TBPYT Theatre Workshop student and son of our tutor Rachel, has been cast in the role of Crispin, a young English boy, in the latest Peter Jackson movie, Mortal Engines. Xavi was among a small number of students we put forward for auditions when contacted by Liz Mullane, the casting director, in February and he has been flying to and fro from Wellington in preparation for filming this month. We are really thrilled for Xavi and can only imagine how this will wet his appetite for more acting pursuits in the future.

“My daughter has loved it and I believe it has helped with her confidence in communication with other people…particularly adults” – Quote from Maurice, 2014

“Thank you for the great drama classes you and the team run” – Quote from Maree 2014

“These classes have been so wonderful for my daughter, she loves them, and has just blossomed in confidence, and ability” – Lisa, 2015

Maddie just loves drama and was all chat after class on Monday about the ‘trust’ class this week. Please pass on our thanks to Rachel for being such a great fun and inspiring teacher.  – Louise, 2016

Our Youth Theatre is more than just a weekly drama class -

A tutors host each class with members being introduced to a range of theatre techniques (onstage and off) with occasional guest tutors; for example, movement, singing or improvisation tutors, or elements of costume, lighting and set design from regular designers affiliated with Tim Bray Productions.

Students also attend a rehearsal of each current production to watch professional actors at work. An end of year performance by Tim Bray Productions Youth Theatre members allows them to showcase the skills they have learned throughout the year to their family and friends.

“I started drama classes when I was 13 with Mary Amoore and her Auckland Youth Theatre and the skills I learnt from her and the other tutors of the AYT continue to be used in my work. The self-confidence I quietly built up through the classes was, in hindsight, a great gift.” – Tim Bray, Artistic Director.
